AELA provides tailored support to individuals, communities, organisations and government agencies who are interested in creating Earth-centred initiatives.
This work includes:
- providing confidential advice to community groups, government agencies and NGOs about how to create Earth-centred initiatives and include Earth-centred governance in existing legal, policy and advocacy projects;
- providing one-on-one mentoring for people working to create their own Earth-centred initiatives;
- supporting people who wish to advocate for Indigenous First Laws, Rights of Nature, Community Eco-Governance (Greenprints) and other Earth-centred governance initiatives in their jurisdiction or local community.
Some of our current and recent projects include:
- Working with NGOs in NSW to develop strategies for bringing Rights of Nature and First Laws into their campaigns.
- Working with communities along the Clarence River, Hawkesbury Nepean River Macleay River, to map strategies for Earth laws and First Laws advocacy in their region.
- Supporting groups in South East Queensland with Bioregional and Greenprints projects.
- In 2022 we provided information and tools to Earth laws advocates in the Mornington Peninsula Council, as they explored Rights of Nature in the region.
- In 2020/2021 we supported community members in the Blue Mountains (NSW) who advocated for the Blue Mountains City Council to adopt the Rights of Nature. The Council adopted Rights of Nature as an operational principle in their work.
- In 2019 we supported Greens MP Diane Evers as she drafted and introduced the “Rights of Nature and Future Generations Bill” into WA Parliament.
- We also provide workshops and discussions with community leaders and Local Councilors about how to increase Earth-centred policy and governance in their own communities.
